Coasts 1.2
-
Constructive wave
-
Gentle, flat waves with strong swash but weak backwash
-
Destructive waves
-
-
Strong backwash that erodes beach material, creating a bar or offshore ridge
-
Wave size depends on : strength of wind, duration of the wind blows for, wave depth and wave fetch
Most erosion will occur: the tide is high (propelling of waves higher up the cliff face), waves approach the coast at right angles to the cliff face and when waves are at their largest
-
Longshore drift-Dictated by prevailing wind , as a result waves break on to the beach obliquely at an angle of around 45 degrees. Swash moves material along the beach
Sediment cells- Each cell there are sources, Transfer zones and sinks (locations where the dominant process is deposition)
