Decomposition
Tropical rainforest soil is very thin and low in nutrients. With no winters or frosts to kill insects/microorganisms, warm humid conditions allow for decomposition to occur all year. This allows the insects/microorganisms to multiply and grow. Therefore, decomposition of leaf litter occurs quickly. Therefore, a thin layer of organic material covers the soil.
