2a.2 How do physical factors affect the flows and stores in the water cycle, including temperature, rock permeability, porosity and relief?
-
Permeability
the ability of a rock to transmit fluids such as water, oil or gas and can be expressed as a rate of flow.
-
Relief
After leaving the Andes, the elevation gradient of the Amazon is very low. In the lower Amazon, at the mouth of the Rio Negro and still, 1 500km from the Atlantic ocean, the river-level at low-water season is only 15m above sea-level and the slope is about 1cm/km

The Pantanal
Each year, torrential rains fill the Pantanal's giant basin, creating vast flooded landscapes. When the downpour subsides, water slowly drains into the Paraguay River, leaving behind an incredibly diverse ecosystem for several months.
Fish and snail filled pools attract huge flocks of egrets, storks, and spoonbills.
