definition
Lung cancer is a malignant lung tumor characterized by uncontrolled cell growth in tissues of the lung. If left untreated, this growth can spread beyond the lung by the process of metastasis into nearby tissue or other parts of the body and mostly starts in the spongy, pinkish gray walls of the lungs’ airways or air sacs
classification
Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) – start in the middle of the
lungs, and it usually spreads early
Mesothelioma – A rare type of cancer that affects the
protective membrane around the body’s internal organs
Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)-- mainly affects the cells that line the tubes into the lungs (bronchi) and smaller airways
• squamous cell carcinoma
• adenocarcinoma, or
• large cell carcinoma.
