Hopkins' Poetry
Rhythm & Rhyme
Rhythm = Sprung Rhythm. In order to achieve the natural rhythm of the speaking voice. Hopkins often breaks away from the rigid imabic pentameter, with its 5 light stresses and 5 heavy stresses.
Rhyme = While giving himself the freedom of sprug rhythm, he also uses end rhyme as a method of control.
Themes
Hopkins own spiritual desolation and stagnation. Feeling of being abandoned by God, and of unfulfillment and despair.
