Like in Arrival, the Heptapods here are also described in ways that 'otherize' them, but the narrator Louise is also set apart from her fellow humans to an extent. Louise sees past, present, and future simultaneously, unlike all other humans in the text. Her perception of reality is based off of infinite, timeless knowledge, and this causes her to bring a child into the world only to have her taken out of it prematurely. This decision shows a difference between Louise and her peers - she acts out of the necessity of a bigger picture, while everyone else acts on temporary and individual emotions.
