Forces Mind Map
Newton's Laws
Newton's Second Law
The acceleration of an object is equal to the net force acting on it divided by the object's mass.
It is easy to kick a ball
but harder to kick a wall
heavier mass needs more force
Less mass needs less force
We can build our rocket lighter
So it needs less force to push it
Newton's First Law
The state of motion of an object does not change as long as the net force acting on the object in zero.
When your car stops
You move forward
We can tip over the rocket
so the change is motion
will bring the parachute out
When your car moves constantly
You stay in the same place
Newton's Third Law
Whenever one object exerts a force on a second object, the second object exerts an equal and opposite force on the first object.
When you jump
legs put force on the ground
Reaction is it propels you up
A rocket pushes on the ground
ground pushes the rocket up with equal force
Work
Formula
W=FD
Definition
When applied force
Moves an object
Energy
Formula
W=ΔKE
Types of Energy
Potential
Definition
stored energy or
energy caused by position
Example
Bow being pulled
Mechanical
Example
A rocket being launched
Definition
sum of kinetic
and potential energy
Kinetic Energy
Example
A flying bird
Definition
Energy that
something possesses
While in motion
Definition
capacity or power to do work
