Forces by Deepti Prabakar #518
Newton's Fist Law of Motion
The state of an object does not change as long as the net force acting on the object is zero.
Our water rockets were still when no force was acting on it.
Newton's Second Law of Motion
The acceleration of an object is equal to the net force acting on it divided by the object's mass.
Acceleration=Net Force/Mass, or a=F/m
The heavier water rockets didn't go as high as the lighter ones because they had more mass.
Newton's Third Law of Motion
Whenever one object exerts a force on a second, the second objects exerts an equal and opposite force on the first object.
Fa=-Fb
In a water rocket, the force from the water being released creates a reaction that shoots the water rocket in the air.
Work
work done= force x distance
A force that is applied to an object moves that object
Energy
The potential to do work
Kinetic energy
Energy an object possess due to its motion
K.E. = 1/2m v^2
Potential energy
Energy and object by an object because of its position relative to other objects, stresses within itself, electric charge, or other factors.
