- - - - John Locke argues we cannot control our the real world as we would be able to control our imagination - ie pain.
- - - - Illusions also create issues with direct realism,as they can be ‘subjectively indistinguishable from veridical truth. The argument from illusions is that we perceive something having a property (like a mirage). When we percieve something having some property F, then there is something that has this property. In an illusion, the physical object does not have property F. Therefore, property F belongs to something mental, a piece of sense data.
    - - Take a shiny brown table
        Doesn't look brown al, as light reflects off it differently from different points
        So saying something is a colour means it just looks so from the current perspective
        However what if a shiny table looked brown for me at one angle, but white to someone else from another
        The table cannot be both brown and white at once.
        Therefore, this property is mind dependent
  - - - The DR reply to the argument from Illusions/Hallucinations:
        If something looks a certain way, then one of two quite different things is happening, Either:
        
        I directly perceive a mind independent physical object that is F.
        Or
        
        It appears to me just as if there is something that is F, but there is nothing that is F.
        
        This goes off the premises that:
        
        hallucinations are two completely different kinds of mental state.
        
        They seem the same but that doesn’t prove they’re the same
        
        Hallucinations tell us nothing about perception
        
        -In hallucination, we don’t perceive anything we imagine it.
        
        Therefore hallucination is no objection to DR
