Chemical Reactions Unit
Reaction Types
Single Reaction
A reaction where one of the atoms of one element replaces the atoms of a second element in a compound.
-
-
Combustion
A reaction in which oxygen reacts with another substance, often producing heat or light.
-
Predicting Products
If there is a lone atom on one side of a reaction, then it is usually a Single Replacement Reaction. *A Metal will replace another Metal.
If two atoms switch places, then it is usually a Double Replacement Reaction. *Metals will usually replace other Metals.
If there is only one reactant, then it is almost always going to be a Decomposition Reaction.
If the products are CO2 and H2O, then it is most definitely a Combustion Reaction.
If two reactants are on one side alone, then it is a dead giveaway that it is a Synthesis Reaction.
Balencing Reactions
Skeleton Equation
Only shows the formulas of the reactants and the products. Does not show the amount of the reactants or products.
-
Chemical Equations
Chemical Reaction represented using the Atomic Symbols instead of words. (Usually easier than Word Equations)
