Models
Rehabilitation Model- Emphasizes the need to restore a convicted offender to a constructive place in society
Medical Model- Bases on the assumption that criminal behavior is caused by biological or psychological conditions

Community Corrections
Probation- Before prison, most used form of community corrections. Supervision is key and public safety is paramount
Parole- After prison, supervision is also important and it is used to reintegrate offenders back into the community safely while they are still under state supervision
Prison organization
Prison managers cannot
- Have all of the control in regards to releasing their clients
- They have to deal with people who do not want to be there
- Must rely on these same clients to do their work and comply
- Need to maintain the relationships between clients and staff
