:pen:
"Good people do not need laws to tell them to act responsibly, while bad people will find a way around the laws.
"
LAWS was created as a reminder for those who can be deceived, while for the good ones... laws doesn't need to be reminded because they'll do what they think is right :check:
The Theory of Forms :check:
Philosophy was relatively new in Plato's day, and it completed with methodology, tragedy, and epic poetry as the primary means by which people could make sense of their place in the world.
Theory of forms represent Plato’s attempt to cultivate our capacity for abstract. By investigating the world of forms, Plato hopes to attain greater knowledge.
The Theory of Forms differentiates the abstract world of thought from the world of the senses, where art and mythology operate.
A student of Socrates and the teacher of Aristotle
He wrote in the middle of the fourth century B.C.E.
Though influenced primarily by Socrates, to the extend that Socrates is usually the main character in many of Plato's writings, he was also influenced by Heraclitus, Parmenides, and the Pythagoreans.
Education for the Health of the State :pencil2:
Plato identifies education as one of the most important aspects of a healthy state.
Plato regards education as a means to achieve justice, both individual justice and social justice. According to Plato, individual justice can be obtained when each individual develops his or her ability to the fullest. In this sense, justice means excellence.
For the Greeks and Plato, excellence is virtue. According to Socrates, virtue is knowledge. Thus, knowledge is required to be just. From this Plato concludes that virtue can be obtained through three stages of development of knowledge: knowledge of one's own job, self-knowledge, and knowledge of the Idea of the Good.
He lays out detailed education programs that start with exercises pregnant women should perform to ensure the health of the fetus, and he goes on to explain no only what children should study but also what values they should exposed to and what kinds of art and physical exercise they should engage in.
One can achieve only so much by arguing with a corrupt soul that a virtuous life and to seek wisdom.
Aristotle (384- 322) B.C.E
Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence
People should aim his/ her happiness in everything he/ she do.
Example. Choose a job that will make you happy. or do something that will give you a heart warming feeling (happiness).
"Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence "
Aristotle once said
Aristotle's Beliefs about Virtue and Happiness
For Aristotle, this happiness is our highest goal. However, Aristotle does not say that we should aim happiness, but rather we do aim for happiness.
His goal on the ethics is not to tell us that we ought to live happy, successful life, but to tell us what this life consists of.
For Aristotle, this happiness is our highest goal. However, Aristotle does not say that we should aim happiness, but rather we do aim for happiness
The word happiness in the Ethics is a translation of the Greek term 'eudaimonia', which carries connotations of success and fulfillment.
Who is Aristotle
He is one of the Greatest Greek Philosophers :!!:; :
He was a student of Plato who intern studied under Socrates. He was more empirically-minded than Plato or Socrates famous for rejecting Plato's theory of forms.
A talented philosopher too :fountain_pen:
Aristotle is a towering figure in ancient Greek philosophy making contribution to .logic, metaphysics, mathematics, physics, biology, botany, ethics, politics, agriculture, medicine, dance and theater.
Moral Education :unlock:
...His ethics, then, is not designed to make people good, but rather to explain what is good , why it is good, and how we might set about building societies and institutions that might inculcate this goodness.
...A question of high importance in any investigation of ethics is how we can teach people to be good.
Aristotle is quite clear that he does not think virtue can be thought in classroom or by means of argument.
Implication to Business :!:
" The rational person doesn't seek money for it's own sake. the rational person uses money so that they can spend their time on good moral works and developing their mind"
Aristotle concludes that the role of the leader is to create the environment in which ll members of an organization can realize their own potential.
He says that the ethical role of the leader is not to enhance his or her own power but to create the conditions under which followers can achieve their potential.
He did raise a set of ethical questions that are directly relevant to corporate leaders who wish to behave in ethical ways.
Socrates (469-399 B.C.E)
The Gad-fly at the Marketplace
WHO
He was a Greek philosopher and is considered the father of western philosophy.
Plato was his most famous student and would teach Aristotle who would then tutor Alexander the Great.
By this progression, Greek philosophy, as first developed by Socrates, was spread throughout the known world during Alexander's conquests.
A Teacher until Last... :<3:
Socrates' influence was felt immediately in the actions of his disciples as they formed their own interpretations of his life, teachings, and death, and set about forming their own philosophical schools and writing about their experiences with their teacher.
Of all these writings we have only the works of Plato, Xenophon, a comic image by Aristophanes, and later works by Aristotle to tell us anything about Socrates' life. He, himself, wrote nothing, but his words and actions in the search for and defense of Truth changed the world and his example still inspires people today.
"The unexamined life is not worth living" -
Socrates
However his teachings were interpreted, it seems clear that Socrates' main focus was on how to live a good and virtuous life.
The claim atrributed to him by Plato that "an unexamined life is not worth living" (Apology, 38b) seems historically accurate, in that it is clear he inspired his followers to think for themselves instead of following the dictates of society and the accepted superstitions concerning the gods and how one should behave.
One of the few individuals whom one could say has shaped the cultural and intellectual development of the world that, without him, history would be profoundly different.
He is best known for Socratic Method of question and answer.
What can entrepreneurs learn from him
The Socratic Method is a way of thinking that allows individuals to define their own purpose for learning an explore this purpose through open-minded questioning of what they hold to be true.
Entrepreneurs an find value in Socratic Method because they, too, are bombarded by assumptions based on what others and they themselves believe to be the best plan of action for pursuing a business idea.
Entrepreneurial Learning or the acquisition of knowledge necessary for creating a business venture is built around the constant questioning and testing of these assumptions theories about what we hold to be true for validity.
These assumptions can range from beliefs about what the market wants, where opportunities lie, to the effectiveness of a new product feature.
Dare to Disagree :warning:
Socrates insisted on our right to think for ourselves. too, often, he warned, humans sleepwalk through life, simply going along with the crowd.
