Economic freedom & anarchism
differences with marxism
Not interpreted in simple economic terms - but as all those who command power, authority & wealth in society.
Bakunin's description of social structure
'political wealth and power are inseparable'
three social groups in every developed society
a vast majority who are exploited
a minority who are exploited but also exploit others in equal measure
a small minority of 'exploiters plain and simple'. 'The supreme governing estate'.
Anarchists views on economic system - agreements
Collectivists = managed capitalism just props up a systm of class exploitation & gives capitalism a human face.
they all oppose 'managed capitalism' (that flourished in western countries after 1945).
all anarchists share a dislike of economic systems used in the 20th century.
Bakunin's attitude to capitalism
'Political power and wealth are inseparable'
Ruling class (authority / state - kings, bishops, police, priest) exploit the poor / working class / masses.
church plays a role in supporting the role of the ruling class e.g. in catholic spain etc
Anarchist criticism of the soviet union
individualists object to the violation of property rights and individual freedom (that they argue occurs in a state economy)
'State socialism' is a contradiction in terms.
The state merely replaces a capitalist class as the main source of exploitation.
all anarchists support an economy where free individuals manage their own affairs - no need for state ownership or regulation.
Anarchists views on the economic system - disagreements
collectivist - (anarcho-syndicalist & anarcho-communists) influenced by socialism & mutualism. Their economy is based on cooperation.
individualist - a distinct wing (anarcho-capitalist & libertarians) supports private property & the free market.
Individualist - Violation of property rights & individual freedom
Collectivist - replaces one kind of dominantion with another.
