The south had very good soil to grow cotton so after the cotton Gin was invented the south wanted more slaves to get more cotton make more money.They wanted more slaves because, there was more fields and the south wanted to grow more cotton. So that required lots more work. So the south needed more slaves.

Kansas Nebraska Act

The Kansas-Nebraska Act was passed
allowed by the U.S. Congress on May 30, 1854. It allowed people in the territories of Kansas and Nebraska to decide for themselves whether or not to allow slavery within their borders. The Act was made to take away the Missouri Compromise of 1820 which prohibited slavery north of latitude 36°30´.
Douglas wanted more slavery and the Kansas Nebraska Act would allow slaves under the 36 30 line if the states wanted them

The Anaconda Plan was a strategy created by Union in 1861, early on in the Civil War. It called for strangling the Southern Confederacy, much like an Anaconda. It was never officially adopted by the Union government.
