In Tsotsi, the use of shots impacts how we as the audience form our views on the rich and poor areas. The establishing shot of the shantytown is almost non existent, it is simply a wide shot of the character exiting their building out of the window, and walking across the roof, however when the film next establishes Johannesburg, it does so with an establishing shot that shows of the skyscrapers and office blocks of a high rise wealth-laden city. This represents how some people view South Africa, as a beacon of civilisation within a sea of savagery, but that these views ignore that even after the end of apartheid, the poor live in despicable conditions compared to the wealthy.
