Chapter 3 - Behaviour
habituation
-
-
-
Two main ways to test it
-
(2) orienting response
ex: babies are placed in front of changing picture, measure how long they look at picture when it changes. Decreases as they go forward. Habituating to the changes.
-
-
-
-
-
perceptual learning
-
different types
priming
Ex: Primed on bugs, shown blank like "MO__" they would say "moth" other people may see "motel"
-
Ex: Blue jays are primed to be thinking of moths, shown pixalated pictures of moths in them, either high, med or low contrast. Looked at how the birds could detect the moth. When a moth is the same as a recently viewed moth they would recognize it better
-
-
mere exposure
ex: target scribble (like a little squiggle) you were shown the target and then a mass of different ones and then you had to pick out the one that was most relevant
-
spatial learning
learning the space around you, such as your classroom or your school or your house.
-
-
demonstrates latent learning: never been tested on the fact you know where certain things are but you have learned it by mere exposure
