Individual tension graph
- Descending (33:11-33:21)
Sound effects:Loud wind and snow in the background(Through the whole section) serves to create an even more disastrous situation for the protagonist through making the setting so much scarier, this also better helps the viewers understand and be better to feel sympathy and in rare cases, empathy towards the protagonist.
Handheld shot:A handheld shot, which is used in (33:11), is when the camera is being held by nothing more than a shaky hand. This makes everything so blurred and shaky to emphasise how painful it was for the protagonist to descend.
Lighting: The lighting in this part of the documentary is in my opinion, clearly underestimated. It becomes less saturated and even more blue, which can serve to express the situation, but clearly serves a more obvious role of foreshadowing the very dark events that are sure to come.
Foley: This may fall into the category of sound effects, Foley, which is named after Jack Foley, Is the art of reproducing sounds to make the whole movie more exciting. Director Kevin Macdonald uses Foley to increase the sound of the screams and therefore make the sound of the desperate protagonist emphasize the alarm that the protagonist is feeling, and therefore help the viewers understand how hurt the protagonist was during the descent.
- Dangling (33:21-33:47)

Foley: In (33:27-33:35), the main thing that creates more tension for the viewers is actually the Foley. There is great use of foley where the protagonist (Joe Simpson) is hanging on the edge with simon on the other side. The Foley is the part where there are various loud breathing noises to show how scared and how tense the situations are for the protagonist. There is also a part when the loud breathing(which is part of the foley) quiets down, and the breathing sounds are increasing volume dramatically, this can come to show how tired and how tense the protagonist is feeling while he is dangling in mid air.
Wide angle shot: A wide angled shot is just a long shot, but it is called a wide angled shot to simply remove ambiguity.A wide-angled shot typically shows the entire object or human figure and is usually intended to place it in some relation to its surroundings. This is the case here as the protagonist's whole body has been captured by the camera. Since it features the surrounding and isolated peruvian andes, the wide angle shot can help viewers understand how stranded the protagonist is.
Low key lighting: The lighting turns lower to allow the viewers to understand how little the hope of getting back home is
- The Cravass(33:47-33:59)

POV Shot: a POV shot, or a point of view shot, is when the whole situation is shown from the protagonist's point of view, though the time of noticing the crevasse is very short, there is still space for multiple film shots like this one. the POV shot helps the viewers truly understand how high the drop is and how deep the crevasse is.
Talking head: There is a short talking head to explain to the viewers firsthand how he(the protagonist) felt during the moment that he was hanging over the 'large crevasse'.
Foley: There are various wind noises to represent how cold the temperature was and maybe even how cold the protagonist felt at that moment towards sion.
- Reaching for the string (34:00-34:12)

Handheld shot: As the protagonist moves, the camera moves as well, this is also very shaky and shows how desperate the protagonist feels, in this occasion, the handheld shot helps the viewers understand what the protgonist sees or feels, so it can act as a POV shot in this example
Foley: Many sounds of heavy breathing and increased volume when the protagonist is reaching to the wall of ice. This can help the viewers hear easily and understand the situation
Talking head: The talking head, or a voiceover, was used for by the protagonist himself trying to explain how hard it was for him to reach for the string and why he was doing what he was doing.
- Confusion in communication(34:12-34:51)

Low key lighting: I woudn't say this is low key lighting, but almost blak key l ighting! the key lighting is very dark to suggest that the events that are going to happen next are going to be pretty bad
Sudden transition: The sudden fade to black is very overwhelming for the viewers because it leaves them with nothing more but darkness to look at, this can make them feel possiby nervous and it can be overwhelming to be left in such a cliffhanger with complete darkness
