he was born in Dublin in 1882; he was educated at Jesuit schools; he graduated in modern languages; he was interested in a European culture; he went in voluntary exile at the age of twenty two
he believed that the only way to increase Ireland awareness was by offering a realistic portrait of its life by a cosmopolitan point of view
he was forced to return to Dublin because of his mother death;
he married with Nora Barnacle, they move to Italy and settled in Trieste where Joyce started teaching English and became friend with Italo Svevo;
Joyce and Nora had two children but the life was very difficult because of the financial problems
