angi/o = blood or lymph vessel
Angioblastic = The embryonic tissue from which blood vessels arise.
aort/o = aorta
Aortoclasia = Aortic rupture.
arteri/o = artery
Arteriosclerosis = The thickening and hardening of the walls of the arteries, occurring typically in old age.
ather/o = plaque, fatty substance
Atheroma = Degeneration of the walls of the arteries caused by accumulated fatty deposits and scar tissue, and leading to restriction of the circulation and a risk of thrombosis.
brady- = slow
Bradycardia = A condition wherein an individual has a slow heart rate.
cardi/o = heart
Cardiovascular = Relating to the heart and blood vessels.
-crasia = a mixture or blending
Eucrasia = A normal state of health.
-emia = blood, blood condition
Anemia = A condition in which the blood doesn't have enough healthy red blood cells.
erythr/o = red
Erythrocyte = A red blood cell that (in humans) is typically a biconcave disc without a nucleus.
hem/o, hemat/o = blood, relating to blood
Hematoma = A solid swelling of clotted blood within the tissues.
leuk/o = white
Leukocyte = A colorless cell that circulates in the blood and body fluids and is involved in counteracting foreign substances and disease.
phleb/o = vein
Phlebocarcinoma = A carcinoma adherent to a venous wall.
tachy- = fast, rapid
Tachycardia = A heart rate that exceeds the normal resting rate.
thromb/o =clot
Thrombocyte = A component of blood whose function is to stop bleeding by clumping and clotting blood vessel injuries.
ven/o = vein
Venostasis = A condition of slow blood flow in the veins, usually of the legs.
