Martin Luther King's 'Other America' speech
He describes the first America as a well developed, happy, prosperous place to live and work.
'The other America' refers to the poverty and despair found in South and Central America: Haiti, Rio's Favellas. Blacks were heavily discriminated against and had many rights stripped away, leading to a rise in poverty.
The message is still true today: North America (mainly the USA and Canada) are far more developed and politically stable than South and Central America.
