CHROMOSOME ANALYSIS
KARYOTYPING
Purpose
to identify extra or missing chromosomes , or abnormal position of chromosomes pieces
-
to identify and evaluate the size, shape, number of chromosomes , position of centromeres and distribution of heterochromatin region
-
Method
CHROMOSOMES BANDING - stain the banding of chromosomes using different stain according to the banding such as Giemsa for G-banding , quinacrine for Q-banding and C-banding for centromeres
-
CHROMOSOMES PAINTING - hybridization of the chromosomes with fluorescent probes which gives colour to the chromosomes
-
-
CHROMOSOME COUNTING
-
-
Purpose
Detection mutation of chromosomes such as translation, duplication, large deletion and aneuploidy
-
MAIN PURPOSE
One of the most characteristics and best defined for identifying species and relate to the species or sex from where they were derived
can distinguish between normal and transformed cell because normal cells have more stable chromosomes number
