Species evenness- the measure of whether a particular ecosystem is numerically dominated by one species or are all represented by similar numbers of individuals.

Macroevolution- Evolution which gives rise to new species or new genera, family, class or phyla.

Ecosystem- A particular location on Earth distinguished by its particular mix of interacting biotic and abiotic components.

Differential heating of Earth. Tropical regions near the equator receive more solar energy than mid-latitude and polar regions, where the Sun’s rays strike Earth’s surface at an oblique angle.

Climate- The average weather that occurs in a given region over a long period- typically several decades.
