The first part of the journey was from England to Africa
The third part of the journey was from America, back to England
Slavery
Slaves were taken form their home country and sold to plantation owners, or the white upperclass

Slave Work
Slaves mostly worked on plantations
They planted coffee, tobacco, and other cash crops
Some slaves worked for the upper class, as servants
Slave Rebellions
Slaves rebelled by refusing to eat, committing suicide, or running away.
Slave owners lived in fear of slaves rising up against them
They also were afraid of the poor whites joining the slaves
On some slave ships, slaves would escape and try to turn the ship around
Why?
Colonists needed laborers
There weren't enough white settlers to work on plantations
Plantation owners didn't have to pay their slaves
The Cruelest Form of Slavery
American slavery was the cruelest form of slavery
Slaves were treated as if they were machines with no feelings or rights
Slavery in America was based on racial hatred, and the belief that the white owners were more human than the slaves
Fears of Slave Owners

They thought that the poor whites would join the slaves to rise up against the upper classes
