      - His language conveys his urgency & the turbulence of his mind degenerating a heartless & destuctive tyrant
      - By seeking the witches he acknowledges his total commitment to evil
    - - 1st Apparition: Warns him to beware of Macduff
      - 2nd Apparition: Bloody Child- Informs him that none of woman born will harm him
        
        Macbeth's believes this is a 'good' omen but to be safe he decides to kill Macduff anyway
      - 3rd Apparition: A child carrying a tree predicting that Macbeth will not be vanquished until Birnam Wood moves to Dunsinane
- - - - gentle & affectionate mother
  - - - "But cruel are the times, when we are traitors and do not know ourselves, when we hold rumour from what we fear, yet know not what we fear, but float upon a wild and violent sea each way and none."
      - Macduff sent Ross to explain to Lady Macduff he has departed to England
      - Careful not to give anything away and circumspect in giving information to Lady Macduff about Macduff: "I dare not speak much further..."
  - - - ironic, emphasises dramatic forces & the wanton cruelty of Macbeth
  - - - Lay Macduff "To leave his wife, to leave his babes, His mansion, and his titles, in a place From whence himself does fly?"

      - Example of reoccuring theme of Appearance vs. Reality by using sarcasm
      - Pretends he has bad qualities of a king : "But I have none: the king becoming graces, As justice, verity, temperance stableness, Bounty, perservance, mercy, lowliness, dvotion, patience, courage, fortitude, I have no relish of them, but abound In the division fo each several crime, Acting it many ways. Nay, had I power, I should our sweet milk of concord into hell, Uproar the universak peace, confound All unity on earth" - Striking contrast to his real character
    - - Contrast to Macbeth as a king and also conveyed as stronger than Duncan.
