COLLECTION & TRANSPORT SPECIMEN
at the end of lesion with blunt edge of scalpel
Toe webs, soggy skin - peel it away
Vesicles - whole top removed
4-6 strands with root end attached, plucked/brushed
Skin, hair, nail - cleaned with 70% OH before collected
collected into folded squares of stiff black paper
Direct/indirect contact with infected exfoliated skin/hair, combs, hair brushes, shoes...

ISOLATION & IDENTIFICATION
PE reveals characteristic pattern of inflammation -"active" border
characterized by greater degree of redness and swelling at the edge of the lesion/blister formation.
Central clearing of lesion may be present and distinguishes
After exposure, show clinical signs 2 to 4 weeks later
Area of hair gone and crusts of skin may develop on affected aea
Skin areas are red and very itchy
An appearance of circle or ring may be seen.
