DCD 231 Final Exam
Module 4
Bored and Brilliant
“The relationship between a baby and its teddy bear, or baby and its binky. That’s the relationship I have with my phone” (1:20 secs). My favorite “if I don’t pay attention I suddenly realize I lost an hour of my time doing something totally mindless” (1:40 secs) The phone is a dangerous piece of equipment. It’s so easy to just scroll forever through your feed and have no idea how much time has gone by.

The Internet Debate: Shirky, Carr, & Poundstone
"To be everywhere is to be
nowhere." Today, the Internet grants us easy access to unprecedented amounts of information.
But a growing body of scientific evidence suggests that the Net, with its constant distractions and
interruptions, is also turning us into scattered and superficial thinkers(Carr par 1)."

Her: Needs and Desires
“Loneliness is a part of life that we much overcome” (Criswell). It is not easy to deal with being lonely especially when you feel like an outcast or different then your peers, which Theodore appears to be struggling with.
Film Theory and Approaches to Criticism, or, what did that movie mean?
“But this is neither a film review nor a film analysis. It’s merely a synopsis that anyone else who sees or has seen the movie will likely agree with. This level of content may be called the referential content, since it refers directly to things that happen in the plot and possibly to some aspects of the story that are merely implied by the plot” (Jacobs par 2).
Module 5
Video Game and Violence
“Douglas Gentile and Robert Gentile ague that students who play violent video games more frequently across time are more likely to learn aggressive cognitions and behaviors then those who do not play such games, or who play these games less frequently” (Flew pg 103). Some of my friends that played these games a lot were 100% more tapped in the head and were noticeably more violent compared to my friends that weren’t such big gamers as kids. I can see why my parents tried to shy us away from use playing games such as those.

Module 6
The Digital Degree
Online courses to me at first glance seemed like the shortcut way to a degree and maybe not as prestigious.

Module 1
What is New Media?
New media is the modern, interactive and includes types of content that offer a different variety of visualization and information to the user.
-
Module 2
Google-Knowing
By trying to find out the answer to his four questions without using google defiantly seemed a little weird to me, because we have every answer u can imagine at our fingertips. “But my little exercise brought it home for me, made it personal, in a way that I hadn’t before appreciated, and I encourage you to try it yourself.” (Lynch 23) I know the feeling whenever I accomplish something on my own I become very happy because I take pride in my work. I guess in this situation it almost feels like you are doing something the old fashion way and not following social norms and I can imagine that was very fulfilling for him.
Our Digital Form of Life
I would feel like a robot or that I have no control over my body being that I have this computer chip inside my brain. “They would worry that this would make us less autonomous, more dependent on our particular hive-mind, less human. But we can imagine in society see these potential drawbacks as a price worth paying for immediate and unlimited access to information.” (Lynch 4) I also see the side where it would be absolutely insane and convenient to have this type of technology inside your brain. I would be very paranoid knowing I have this chip inside my head. The knowledge and power we would have we create so many more problems than we have now and I feel that it would make people crazy and nothing good would come from it.
Connected, but not Alone
I didn’t realize I was using my phone as a crutch to keep me busy because I was either alone or trying to pass time. “Those little devices in our pockets are so psychologically powerful they not only change what we do they change who we are” (Turkle). When I see someone drop their phone it’s like they dropped their child, the phone is so important to people it goes everywhere and some even have this obsessive desire to never let go of it.
