INTRODUCTION
Neuropathic pain
Allodynia and hyperalgesia are the two prominent symptoms (R.Baron et al., 2010; D. Bridges et al., 2001).
Suffer due various chronic diseases (Ming-Tatt L et al., 2013).
Injury or disease affecting the somatosensory nervous system either in the peripheral or central nervous system (J.N. Campbell et al., 2006; R.H. Dworkin, et al., 2003).
May induce mood disorders like depression and anxiety (Rasmussen et al., 2002).
Zerumbone
Demonstrated an anti-inflammatory activity in both acute and chronic inflammatory mice models (Sulaiman M.R et al.,2010).
Possess both anti-allodynic and anti-hyperalgesic properties in CCI-induced neuropathic pain mice( Zulazmi et al.,2015).
-
Mediated serotonergic inhibitory pathway (Chia, J. S. M. et al.,2016).
-
Depression
Decreases in pain tolerance are associated with depression (Merskey,1965; Zelman et al., 1991)
Related to over-activity of hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis (Schuld et al., 2003).
Emotional environment also can increase or decrease pain intensity (Merskey, 1965).
Objective
Investigate whether zerumbone has antidepressant effect by using chronic constriction injury (CCI)-induced neuropathic pain mice model.
Open field test, plus maze test and force swimming test are conducted to examine the depression behaviour
