Animals: The Sahel desert used to be home to many wild grazing mammals such as Gazelles, prehistoric buffaloes, African wild dogs, cheetahs and lions. Do to over hunting and competition with livestock, many of these species have been left either vulnerable to be prayed, endangered and some extinct. With the Sahel being mostly covered with grass land and savanna, the seasonal wetland are important for birds and help keep other animals safe from predators.
