Touching The Void (32:41 - 34:51)
32:48 - Hand Held Shot
33:03 - Close Up Shot
33:11 - Sound Effects
Macdonald uses screaming sound effects to make the viewer nervous. Here Joe is screaming, once the viewer hears this they would want to close their ears or cover their eyes. This is a natural reaction as the viewer relates this to personal experience, when they were screaming because of a scary event.
33:45 - Long Shot
Macdonald uses a long shot to show Joe hanging over the edge with a giant drop bellow him. This makes the viewer freeze, because they will become worried incase Simon cuts the rope and Joe falls down.
34:11 - Music
Macdonald uses intense music from this time onwards. This music's beat would synchronise with someone's heart beat. This effect would let the viewer know that he is very scared, and his heart is beating very loud.
Macdonald uses a close up shot of Joe as an interview. This way the viewer doesn't need to predict how the character is feeling, but instead the character will tell the viewer himself. Here the character is telling the viewer how he can feel the ice get steeper. The viewer will then get nervous wondering what will happen next.
Macdonald uses a hand held shot here to make the watcher feel like he/she is at the scene watching Joe struggle to get down the mountain.
