GASOLINE
Introduction
Definition :pencil2: : gasoline is a petroleum-derived liquid mixture consisting primarily of hydrocarbon & enhance with benzene to increase octane rating
- used as fuel in internal combustion engine
- gasoline produce by distillation crude oil called straight-run gasoline.
-
-
Volality
- more volatile than other because of the additives
- desire volatility depend on temperature
Octane Number
-
-
- tell how much fuel can be compress before it spontaneously ignite.
Additives
3. Dye
- sometimes added for identification.
- cause confusion in different system
- result in contaminated aviation fuel when very different fuel of similar color were mixed.
4. Oxygenated Blending
- add oxygen to fuel in oxygen-bearing compound
- resulting fuel often known reformulated gasoline or oxygenated gasoline
2. MMT
- help old car designed for lead fuel run on unleaded fuel
- powerful neurotoxic & respiratory toxic
-
1. Lead (Plumbun)
- mostly used is tetra- ethyl lead.
- cause damage to environment & health
- when use in high compression has tendency to ignite & cause damage.
Stability of gasoline
- gum cause problem to start engine when they built up in cylinder & fuel line.
- gum & varnished must be remove to extent engine life.
- when left for certain time, gum & varnished may built up then precipitate in gasoline.
