Conflict occurs in all communication forms!
It can be negative or positive!
Negative is going after someone with the intent of causing pain.
Positive is we are forced to work through it and resolve it a manner that does not ruin the relationship.
Conflict is influenced by culture and gender!
Culture: influences the issues we fight over, things we consider appropriate and inappropriate.
Gender: men have more of a tendency to withdrawal from the conversation whereas women have a tendency to continue.
Conflict styles have consequences!
Avoiding: i lose, you lose
Compete: I win, you lose
Collaborating: I win, you win.
Compromising: I win and lose, you win and lose.
Accommodating: I lose, you win.
