Holidays
Christmas
The most famous of them all, instead of celebrating the birth of Christ, the holiday is now surrounded by sales and holiday deals in stores around the world instead of anything religious.
Halloween
An ancient Celtic holiday, this is also associated with buying a lot of candy, buying costumes, horror movies, and partying
Thanksgiving
Moved from the last Thursday in November to the fourth Thursday in November in 1941 in order to accelerate the Christmas season and Christmas shopping
St. Patrick's Day
Began as a religious feast day in Ireland in the 17th century has now evolved into a day to spend money on everything green and get dangerously intoxicated. Several cities even dye entire rivers green.
Mother's Day
Created with good intentions by a mother herself, the holiday was co-opted by companies to sell flowers, candy, and cards along with plenty of other sales and deals.
Father's Day
Created to compliment Mother's Day, it is now a day to buy crappy ties, grilling and hunting equipment, and power tools. Was not celebrated in the United States until the 20th century.
St. Valentine's Day
Originally a cultural holiday, this was also co-opted by companies to sell flowers, chocolates, cards, and other expensive gifts under the guise of love.
Grandparents' Day
Created to compliment both of the parent holidays, again to sell themed cards, candy, and gifts.
Boss' Day
Same as Teacher's day, just from employee to employer

Cinco de Mayo
A "gringo holiday", barely celebrated in Puebla where the battle occurred and even less in Mexico as a whole, and is just a party day in the United States
Easter
Instead of celebrating the resurrection of Christ, the holiday is now connected to anthropomorphic rabbits that bring candy and toys to kids.
