Aviation Turbine Fuels
-
Introduction
- higher quality than fuel used in less critical application.
- contained additives to reduce risk of icing or explosion.
:fire: Aviation turbine fuel (Jet fuel) ---> in turbo fan, turbo jet
-
Jet A
- higher freezing point (min -40C)
Jet A-1
- is kerosine grade and suitable for most turbine engine aircraft
-
- freezing point min of -40C
- auto ignition : over 425C
- open burning temperature : 260- 315 C
- maximum burning temperature : 980 C
Jet B
- distillate comprising naphta & kerosine fraction
- also used as alternative to Jet A-1
- higher flammability cause minimal demand
Additives
4. Corrosion Inhibitor :red_flag: - protect ferrous metal in fuel handling system. Also improve properties of certain jet fuel.
5. Fuel system long inhibitor (Anti-acing) :red_flag: - reduce freezing point of water precipitated and prevent formation of ice crystal. Also protection against microbial growth
3. Static Dissipator :red_flag: - reduce the hazardous effect of static electricity generated by movement of fuel through modern high flow-rate fuel system
-
-
-
1. Anti knocks :red_flag: - reduce tendency of gasoline to detonate. Example: Tetra-ethyl lead (TEL)
