CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE
CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM
Consisting heart & blood vessels, transport blood throughout the body, providing a means of delivering oxygen & nutrients & removing wastes from cells
The coronary arteries deliver blood to the myocardium (heart muscle). Their proximity to heart muscle makes them vulnerable to damage
The formation of atheromatous plaque restricts the flow of blood to the myocardium, resulting atherosclerosis
Arteriosclerosis (hardening of arteries), is loss elasticity of arteries
Coronary artery disease (CAD) - build up plaque in coronary arteries -> restrict blood to myocardium -> cause coronary heart disease (CHD)
