Tension Graph - Clip of Our Choice
Shot 2: Eerie Laughing
Sound: A kind of creepy laugh from Simpson lets the audience know that he is emotionally, mentally and physically drained.
Close-up shot: A close-up shot shows the audience that Simpson's current condition is physically weak based on his face, his face emotion, and the way his body is placed.
Lighting: The lighting from the scene is dark, telling the audience that he was in a dark position and maybe telling the audience about how Simpson was feeling that time using the dark lighting
Shot 1: Death Hallucinations
Close-up shot: Showing the audience Simpson's state of mind and body and facial expression.
Visual: The shots show the audience that Simpson is in a death hallucination by making his hallucination shots look a bit blurry and unstable, the shots similar to something displayed in an old TV.
Sound: A faint zooming-in music suddenly plays in the background for a few seconds to emphasize that something is going to happen...
Shot 4: Merged Thoughts
Merged Shot: The director uses a merged shot to emphasize that Joe Simpson was totally disorientated and was literally "out of his mind".
Lighting: The director uses lighting to again emphasize that Joe Simpson was disorientated and unstable having a shadow on one side of his face, making it half light half dark.
Sound: Joe Simpson is doing a voice-over, and even though his voice is relaxed, it increases the tension of the scene due to his descriptions.
Shot 5: Blurred Thoughts
Sound: The song Brown Girl in the Ring by Boney M that is playing is somewhat distorted again to contribute to the implication that Joe is disoriented.
Effect: The clip is blurred to further emphasize that Joe was disoriented and losing control or consciousness.
Sound: The song Brown Girl in the Ring by Boney M is playing in the background but is gradually fading away, emphasizing that Joe was not thinking straight and that he was losing control.
Shot 3: Hollow Whispers
Effect: Frames are prolonged and slowed, then sped up to create a sense of confusion and conflict
Sound: Faded whispers in the background to further emphasize an eerie atmosphere
Sound: Strange music to create an eerie atmosphere
Camera Angle: Bird's Eye View to zoom in from the full body to his face to make it more dramatic
