BOLSHEVIKS + POPULARITY BETWEEN REVOLUTIONS
Lenin's Return
Revolution
Lenin had been in Switzerland during the events of Feb 1917 and the revolution took him completely by surprise
He had told some students not long before that he did not expect to see the revolution in his lifetime
Train
It was locked when he entered German territory and only unlocked when he left
The Germans helped Lenin cross German territory by providing him with a sealed train
The Germans hoped he would stir up trouble in Russia and therefore hinder the war effort
Arrival
He arrived in Finland station and was met by a crowd welcoming him back
Chkheidze, chairman of the Soviet, greeted him and told him the revolution was going well and they did not need him to rock the boat
Lenin immediately ignored him and made a speech welcoming the revolution, but saying it was far from complete.
July Days
April Theses
Reaction
He delivered his Theses at a meeting of the SDs
He was received with the boos and whistles of the Mensheviks
Some believed he had become out of touch in his years of exile, they believed his policies were too radical and extreme
Bolsheviks
Even the Bolsheviks had reacted with astonishment, and some on the Blvk Central Committee opposed it
However by the end of the month, by sheer force of personality, Lenin had ensures that the AT was party policy
Demands
a worldwide socialist revolution
an immediate end to Russia's involvement in the war
an end to cooperation with the PG
the Soviet to take power
land to be given to the peasants
How did he justify the April Theses?
Bourgeoisie
