March on Birmingham
Birmingham had a population of 350,000 and 150,000 Black Americans

Demonstrations began on the 3rd of April 1963 but on the 6th many activists were arrested and Bull Connor closed all public parks and playgrounds
King was arrested on the 12th and wrote the 'letter from Birmingham jail' and was released on the 20th
on 3rd of May Bull Connor allowed to set dogs on the protestors and called the fire department to use powerful water hoses- including children. 2000 jailed, 1300 children
