PROSTISTA KINGDOM
COMMON TYPES OF PROTOZOA
VORTICELLA
They live fixed to the bottom of freshwater puddles and ponds. Like paramecia, they have many cilia, which they use to create currents of water. These currents bring food closer towards them.
-
TRYPANOSOMA
They use their flagellum to move. They are parasites and can cause diseases in people and animals, such as sleeping sickness and Chagas disease. Trypanosoma are usually transmitted by insects
-
AMOEBA
Amoeba stretch out pseudoodia or 'false feet' to move and capture food. Some live in freshwater ponds, feeding off organic remains. Others are parasites and feed from other living things, often causing diseases
