Family
Family can be relatives, husband, kid, or even a wife.
Another example is people living together in an exclusive relationship who are not married. They act as if they are married and everything, but legally they are not married. 
Another example of a family is a single-parent or maybe two people with no children.

My family would be an example of being living together but not married.

Couple Types
Traditional couples share a basic belief system. They often think of themselves as two independent people coming together to form a single unit. They understand gender roles and will not usually have role conflicts.
Independent couples stress their individual importance, but their relationship still has some importance. They engage in conflict openly and without fear. They can be seen spending time outside of the relationship pretty often. 
Separate couples are those that live together but actually find their relationship for convenience rather than love or closeness. they share little together and assume normal roles among the relationship.
I would be apart of a independent couple if we both put emphasis on individuality and spent time away from the relationship.

Child custody can be seen going to the woman in the United States. 
My culture would have an impact on my relationship if I struggled to leave the relationship because of marriage.

People in the United States who formed relationships online are seen having bad relationships with their parents. 
It has allowed instant messages and other tools to stay close with their parents.

Both men and women can start and stop relationships whenever they please.
