Not every friendship that you enter will be the same, there are reciprocity, receptivity, and even association friendships.
Reciprocity is characterized by loyalty, self-sacrifice, mutual affection, and generosity. Equality is big in these relationships.
Receptivity is a relationship where there is an imbalance in giving and receiving. One person in the relationship is the primary giver and another is the primary receiver.
I would be in a receptivity relationship between me and my teacher.
Association friendships are those that are transitory. It is more of a friendly relationship rather than a true friendship. They are most likely the relationships found online.
A friends-with-benefits relationship is one in which people engage in sexual behaviors without having romantic involvement. The relationship can offer freedom from commitment. It can also be known as a hook-up.
