CLIMATE
-
-
-
it is by an ocean ut since it is frozen over it's not getting "near water" effect because there is hardly any water vapor making precipitation.
-
the climate is longterm so it really affects where people live and where they choose to live. Iqaluit being so cold makes it difficult for plants and animals to survive. the soils aren't very good because of the permafrost, therefore, making it hard for agriculture. That's why this location has a low population because of all of the cons so when choosing a place to live you need to consider the climate because it's long-term not like weather.
the sun rises and sets within four hours and the rest of the day is dark and cold. with no sun, to heat up the air/surroundings. it makes it a very cold climate.
Because of the cold climate, the soils are bad, with little nutrients. Making it hard to grow vegetation. There are little to no obstructions (trees, mountains, plants etc able to block weather from getting around in Iqaluit.
VEGETATION
-
-
there are small shrubs, moss, and some flowering plants but only when they are close to the surface because then they can get the most heat from the short growing season
-
-
the flowers and other plants have to grow very quickly in the summer and then produce their seeds before the end of the season.
-
-
-
The soil has enough energy for only grass and small shrubs #
