Balloon tamponad
Inflated endoscopically within the lumen of the esophagus
leading to pressure in the lumen and obstruction of the blood vessels

dilated tortuous veins in the mucosa and submucosa of the lower 1/3 of
esophagus and proximal stomach

1.consequence of portal hypertension, commonly due to
cirrhosis
2.back flow
pressure of portal veins, all the blood will be shunted to systemic circulation

makes a huge stress on the systemic veins make them dilated and tortuous, and put
them under the danger of rupture
