To adopt an holistic approach when caring for patients. To ensure they are competent at delivering essential nursing care. To ensure they are competent and safe at assessing, planning, impementing and evaluating care. To be able to undertake comprehensive nursing assessments, being able to effectively recognise patients who are at risk of harm. Working in partnership where possible with patients inorder to achieve optimum care
Pressure area care

To identify patients at risk of pressure damage and be able to put a plan in place to prevent harm to patient's.
To manage the care of patients who have pressure damage, ensuring strategies are in place to minimise further risk of harm

Nutrition and hydration

Be able to expain ways in which we can promote nutrition/hydration including nursing interventions, changes to environment etc
Under direct supervision be able to care for patients who require nutritional support e.g PEG,NG
Have the opportunity to attend dysphagia training which the trust provides both for staff and students

Ensuring that they understand what medication there mentor is giving/ why they are administering it/ what the side effects are/ whether any further nursing interventions are required
5 "R"s- Right patient, Right drug, Right dose, Right route, Right time.

Awareness of the different routes of administration; under direct supervision students being able to have the opportunity to complete drug rounds .
