Ideas for systematic review 28.11.17
Compare perceptions of risk of heart disease and cancer (like the BRCA1/2 gene).
What predicts peoples perception of the risk for diabetes/ CHD
(i.e. factors that may causes differences in perception of risk like being female, having a family history).
Interest in genetic testing
Knowledge, perceptions and opinions/ attitudes of predictive testing.
Use all of these as the topic to incorporate more research.
Could relate these to a theory? A health behaviour theory/ health behaviour change theory.
Integrate perceptions of risk with attitudes towards predictive testing
Other diseases similar to RA: periodontitis and kidney disease.
Could do genetic risk as a whole topic: knowledge, attitudes and perceptions of genetic testing and then subsequent behaviour of genetic testing. Kind of tells a story!
Genetic counselling and diabetes
Could do HD but studies on this were difficult to establish (i.e. much on FH and HCM that it makes establishing why this links to RA more difficult).
Research aims: Identify predictors of-
Barriers to family communication about RA risk.
Likelihood of passing on genetic risk information.
Perceptions of advantages and disadvantages to someone learning of their risk.
Perceptions of risk
Interest in predictive testing of RA
More research linking to this area compared to family communicaiton
