Pinewood is medium-weight and relatively soft. Its strength and elasticity are good but It has a high natural moisture content, which can lead to a blue staining of the wood through fungal infection

Spruce wood is quite strong, with small knots, resistant to splitting but not durable. It is quite cheap which is also good.
Ash
Light in colour, flexible, tough, steam bends well and varnishes well.

Ferrous
Mild steel- Ductile, malleable and tough. High tensile strength but has poor resistance to corrosion
Cast iron- Smooth skin with soft core, strong when compressed, self lubricating and it cannot be bent or forged
Stainless steel- Tough and hard, corrosion resistant, wears well, difficult to cut, bend and file
Non-Ferrous
Aluminium- It has low density and therefore low weight, high strength, superior malleability, easy machining and high corrosion resistance
Copper- Copper is tough, ductile and malleable. It conducts heat and electricity. Corrosion resistant and solders well
Brass- Quite hard, rigid, solders easily. It is a good heat and electricity conductor and it polishes well

Joining methods- When joining parts together you can either use PVA glue to join it together or you could use a tenan joint
Nuts and Bolts- For a kneeler made out of wood the best nuts to use are wood screws with a round headed slot or machine screws. When using them on a metal kneeler you should use a coach bolt since it be's tight.
