People who download copyrighted music claim that had they purchased the music, the money would not have gone to the artists, but to the record companies.
So now the artist gets 10 to 14 percent of this price -- or somewhere between $0.86 and $1.20 -- per retail sale. The rest of the money goes to the record companies
Music used to be so simple. You listened to it on the radio for free, but you didn’t get to say what would be played, and there were lots of commercials. If you went to a concert, you paid. And if you bought a record, tape or CD, you paid. People copied CDs to cassette tapes and passed them on to friends. That was just about as far as P2P music piracy got. Stealing music was when you shoplifted a CD or cassette from the record store, and it was pretty clearly understood that it was “wrong.”
1) You could get arrested. If you get arrested then you will have a criminal record and it will effect you getting a job and will effect you getting into university.
2) Again it is stealing and it is the same as walking into HMV and shoplifting.
3) OK some popular musicians like The Wanted or Justin Bieber or Usher or Taylor swift or whoever you like may still be able to make a living as they have sell out concerts, However some smaller more unknown artists need that money to live on.
4) Record company are losing profit which means that they don't have the money to support new artists.
5) when record company's lose money they have fire people. INNOCENT people who are in that job because they have family's which they need to feed.
6) Stealing music betrays the songwriter and artist/producer who created it.
7) The bands/artists don't sell enough records then the record company renew there contracts and the band splits up or the artist is left unemployed.
