The Great Eight
Opportunities to respond
Don't call on the same 3 students every time. Giving students an opportunity to respond is like a mini assessment, it allows you to see where the student's understanding is.
If a student never raises their hand to answer a question, it could mean that they are shy, but it could also mean that they don't understand or they are not following along, or struggling with the lesson.
-
I have also noticed that calling on students who rarely raise their hand and praising them for their answer is a great way to reinforce and help to build self confidence.

Active supervision
This involves moving around, and looking around, and interacting frequently with students
Active supervision can result in prevention of disruptive of inappropriate behavior. It can also be important to catch students being good and praise the behavior.
This is also important so that you can recognize any students who may need help, or those who don't but may need supplementary instruction because their work is too easy for them.
Clarifying expectations
Definition
It is also important to make sure that your students actually understand what it is your expectations are, if you don't it could result in frustration and failure to produce what is expected of them.
It is important to clarify expectations because if you don't you assume that your students already know, and because there is no shared vision of what outcome is desired. When this happens the results are no deep understanding, and ultimately disappointment, and declined trust.
To me
Clarifying expectations is important to me and my possible classroom management because I don't want a student to not learn or gain what they need just because I failed to explain something in a way that they understand.
This is also important because if the students knows what is expected from them in regards to behavior, then they know what behavior is not acceptable, and what to expect depending on the way they behave, be it good or bad behavior.
-
Task difficulty
It is important to give a student a task that is challenging enough to be stimulating, but not too difficult that they cant complete it, and give up.
Some students, especially those with IEPs will need a modification to the lesson that allows them to learn the same information, but in a way or pace that best works for them.
