Thymus
Develops under chin (like heart). Paired organ, grows down towards thorax as develops. Cervical portion in neck, thoracic portion in chest.

Lymph nodes

Lympho centres
-
Head - Retropharyngeal, parotid, mandibular
-
-
Thorax - Dorsal & ventral thoracic, mediastinal and bronchial
Abdomen - Lumbar, coeliac, cranial and caudal mesenteric
Hindquarters - Popliteal, ischial, deep inguinal, superficial inguinal and iliosacral
Palpable lymph nodes:
Dog
Parotid, mandibular, superficial cervical, axillary, superficial inguinal, popliteal.
Sometimes: Retropharyngeal, acessory axillary, femoral
Cat
Retropharyngeal, mandibular, dorsal superficial cervical, axillary, accessory axillary, caudal epigastric, superficial inguinal, politeal
Lymphatic vessels
-
Capillaries blind ending, single endothelial layer with discontinuous BM

Embryology
- Formation starts in mesoderm after CV system develops
- Lymph vessels develop from 6 lymph sacs
a) 2 jugular sacs which recieve drainage from head, neck and forelimbs
-
-
- Communicating vessels arise between the lymph sacs
- Vessels between jugular and cisterna chyli form a plexus -> thoracic duct
- Lymph sacs - Except the cisternae chyli - Then develop into lymph nodes as lymphoid tissue aggregates around them
