quality function deployment (QFD)
- what attributes and features does the customer want from the product/service? (customer requirements)
- what product characteristics are needed to meet customer's needs and how?
- links between attributes and characterisitcs (what vs how)
- what conflicts or trade-offs are there between characteristics? Further developmental effort or compromise? Are all preferences equally important?
- compare with competition and decide on the relative importance of the product characteristics. Why do certain characteristics need to be deployed?
- decide which characteristics to deploy and the level of that characteristic (how much?)
