QUALITY OF SERVICE :
INTEGRATED SERVICES
:<3:
RSVP
:fire:
Resource Reservation Protocol
Signaling protocol to help IP create a flow and consequently make a resource reservation. :unlock:
Used by either hosts or routers : :fountain_pen:
How applications place reservations :stuck_out_tongue:
How relinquish the reserved resources once ended :unamused:
Types of Messages
Path Messages :checkered_flag:
Send from the sender host along the data path and stores the path state in each node along the path
Resv Messages
Travels toward the sender(upstream) and makes a resource reservation on the routers
. At each node the IP destination address will change to the address of the next node on the reverse path
What You Have Learned
Integrated Services is a flow-based QoS model designed for IP
:raising_hand:
The service classes for Integrated Services needs lot of improvement :pen:
RSVP is the best signalling protocol to help IP delivers and receives information
SERVICE CLASSES
:star:
Two classes
Guarateed Service
Real time traffic
Guaranteed minimum end-to-end delay
Quantitative services in which the amount of end-to-end delay and the data rate must be defined by the application
Controlled-Load Service
Application that can accept some delays but sensitive to an overloaded network and to the danger of losing packets.
File transfer, e-mail and internet access
PROBLEM
:no_entry:
Scalability :check:
Each router keep information for each flow.
Service-Type Limitatation :forbidden:
The Integrated Services model provides only two types of services, guarateed and control-load

RESERVATION STYLE
:red_flag:
Wild card filter style :sunflower:
A single reservation : for all senders
The reservation is based on the largest request.
Fixed filter style :white_flower:
A distinct reservation : for each flow
Shared explicit style :open_mouth:
A single reservation : shared by the set of flows :
